Celebs' Favorite Holiday Dishes

Amy Adams
Amy Adams can be seen on the big screen in her star-making performance as Princess Giselle in Disney’s new holiday comedy, Enchanted. She also has a co-starring role with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in Mike Nichols’ Charlie Wilson’s War, due in theaters this Christmas.

An Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a pregnant Southerner in the indie fave, Junebug, Adams has played secondary but memorable roles in such films as Talladega Nights, The Wedding Date  and Catch Me If You Can.

As she told Fandango.com during the Enchanted press junket, “I have an addiction to green bean casserole. I just love it and you can’t keep a plate of it away from me.” This recipe, created by Diane Brown, author of The Seduction Cookbook, is a holiday favorite.

Green Bean Casserole (Serves 6 – 8)

Ingredients

Green Bean Casserole
  • 3 pounds green beans, trimmed
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 pounds cremini (Italian brown), sliced
  • 2 shallots, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup Panko (Japanese-style) breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 green onions, white and green portion, chopped fine
  • 3 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves, chopped fine
  • ¼ cup melted butter

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil; add a big pinch of salt and the green beans. Cook for about 5 minutes, until bright green and crisp tender. Drain them and set aside.
  2. Butter a baking dish large enough to hold the green beans with 1 tablespoon butter and set aside.
  3. Heat the oven to 375° F.
  4. Melt the remaining butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and shallots, and cook until the mushrooms have released their liquid and browned, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Pour in the heavy cream and cook for another 5 minutes.
  6. Add the green beans and stir well. Put the green bean mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Mix the Panko with cheese, thyme, onions and melted butter until combined.
  8. Sprinkle on top of the green bean mixture.
  9. Bake until hot and bubbling, and breadcrumbs are browned, about 20 to 25 minutes.
